5 Tips on What To Look For When Buying Diamonds For Wedding Rings

A wedding, or an engagement in  Waterville, is one of the most important events in every couple’s life. One of the best ways of making the experience memorable is by choosing the right ring to symbolize the love you have for one another. While most couples would like to get the most beautiful ring they can lay their hands on, budgetary restrictions can be a challenge. However, it is possible to find an ideal ring based on your budget.

For anyone looking for precious diamonds for engagement rings and wedding rings in Waterville, they should consider going about the process carefully. There are various dealers in the market, some of who may sell you fake diamonds. Here are a few useful tips on what to look for when looking for precious diamonds for engagement or wedding rings.

Consider the Diamond Cut

1. Any expert will tell you that the cut is the most important thing to consider when buying diamonds in Waterville. The main reason behind this is that the cut usually influences the sparkle. A diamond may be clear and feature a high quality color grade, but if the cut is poor, it may still appear dull. The dealer you buy from should be able to cut your diamond in the proper proportions. If your budget can allow it, choose a diamond with the highest cut grade.

Diamond Color

2.  Contrary to common belief, lack of color in your diamonds denotes a higher color grade. Some people go for pale yellow diamond, without knowing that it is low quality. To avoid such an experience, ask the diamond dealer to give you grade H or higher. Near colorless diamond ranges from grade G to J, but it may be quite expensive.

Clarity Diamonds can also be chosen based on their clarity levels.

3. This is usually not a very important factor to consider, considering that the precious stones usually come with imperfections, known as inclusions. These tiny imperfections may not be easy to detect, and they may only be seen through a microscope. However, the fewer there are, the higher the clarity grade of your diamonds. If your budget can be stretched further, consider buying grade VS1 grade or higher.

Consider the Diamond’s Carat Weight

4.  Unlike common belief, carat does not mean the size of the diamond, but its actual weight. Carat and cut must be considered side by side, because no matter the size of the diamond, a poor cut grade can make your precious stones look smaller. Another important fact to keep in mind is that the more the weight of the diamond, the more you will pay for it. Therefore, you should consider going for a less heavy stone with a high grade cut.

Ask for Proof of Certification

5. There is nothing as unfortunate as buying diamonds for your special event only to realize that they are of poor quality, or that they were stolen. To avoid such an eventuality, always ask the dealer in Waterville to show you the copy of diamond certification.

With these tips, you should be able to make the right choice when buying precious diamonds in Waterville for you engagement or wedding.

Waterville How to Buy a Diamond And The 4 Biggest Mistakes When Buying a Diamond

Rubies are normally readily available in an extremely large range of shades. Most individuals understand regarding colorless rubies and also GIA's color grading system that is made use of to categorize a diamond's body color ... you understand D, E, F, and so on. This shade grading system is just made use of to identify the most common ruby body shade of yellow however anytime a ruby is found in one more color like pink, blue, eco-friendly, and so on; then this diamond is referred to as a "" expensive ruby"".

All-natural Fancy rubies can be really pricey and also lot of times extra costly compared to a comparable size anemic diamond. An excellent example of a Fancy diamond is the well known 45.52 carat weight expensive deep blue diamond, the Hope Diamond, which gets on display screen in the Smithsonian Nature Gallery in Washington, DC.

A shade enhanced diamond is a 100% natural diamond that has had its shade transformed. And also finest of all, color improved diamonds been available in a very broad selection of colors at really inexpensive prices!

A little history- For several, several years it has been well recognized that a ruby's color can be "" boosted"" by placing a little bit of colored substance externally of a diamond and much like magic ... a ruby that had a recognizable yellow-colored color would certainly change to a more eye-catching near anemic ruby. Sadly, this sort of color improved ruby could transform back to its original body color if this colored compound was accidentally gotten rid of. In more recent years, the technology of shade boosted rubies has gone incredibly advanced. It is now feasible to completely change the shade of a ruby! These procedures are thought about long-term since it does stay steady when exposed to daily typical problems. The color will not discolor if exposed to sunlight or be cleaned off by harsh chemicals.

How is it done? The preferred outcome of any one of these treatments is to have a more valuable diamond. A less marketable diamond would certainly be a ruby that has a low body shade or sometimes a lower quality. The shade improved diamond treatment companies understand if they begin with a certain type of ruby as well as process it for a specific amount of time that they must finish up with a specific color yet it does not constantly work this way. This is a science that does need some art in their procedures ... the only procedure that gives regular results is the layer procedure.

The three processes are as adheres to- Process # 1- HPHT Color Improved Diamonds- High Stress/ Heat (HPHT) therapy could enhance the color of certain kinds of brown diamonds and also thus increase their worth. General Electric has actually created a procedure that very much is a mechanical simulation of a diamond's creation in nature. The shade enhanced diamond will be warmed up to a very heat under a really high, maintained stress. Faults in the crystal structure are after that rearranged leading to a change of the diamond's color. Since the problems of HPHT are extremely much like ruby's initial formation, just a well geared up laboratory will certainly have the ability to favorably determine this type of shade boosted diamond. HPHT wased initially used to transform yellow-colored diamonds right into more valuable fancy colored enhanced diamonds, today it is also utilized to transform some undesirable brownish rubies right into even more preferable colorless tinted boosted diamonds.

Refine # 2- Irradiated Shade Boosted Diamonds- OK ... do not start obtaining all delighted since you saw words irradiated! This is a 100% risk-free process that is very comparable to what is made use of to protect food by revealing it to a stream of Gamma rays. The shade enhanced diamond procedure is done in a number of different ways yet the outcomes are just the same. You start with a low shade (P, Q, R, and so on) 100% natural diamond that has actually already been cut as well as polished, then it is revealed to a stream of rapid electrons. Throughout this component of the process the diamond will certainly turn to a really dark color due to the fact that several of the atoms in the ruby's crystal structure have currently been disjointed and also this in turn has affected the means light travel through the ruby. Next the ruby experiences a controlled heating (annealing) process, this enables several of those atoms to relocate (partly fixed) in order to acquire a preferred shade.

Process # 3- Coated Shade Improved Diamonds- The coating on sleek diamonds refers to a slim synthetic layer that alters the shade of the ruby. The layer can either be of the preferred shade or can cause a tinted interference-effect. However often this procedure is done to deceive a purchaser. It is a relatively easy procedure to do, it has been around for several years (although the layers materials are much better now), and it does not need a great deal of pricey advanced equipment. Recently, I have actually seen some pink covered rubies on the market, they are very eye-catching ... and obviously you would have to acquire them recognizing that they have been covered and also follow your jeweler's standards regarding possessing and taking care of these color enhanced rubies. The layer could be related to the whole of a diamond's surface, just all-time low of the diamond, or to a narrow zone near the girdle. A well-applied finish could transform the shade by one or more color quality. Some coverings can be eliminated via boiling in acid, strong cleansing services, or even family chemicals. Occasionally dots or larger locations of purple or blue ink are paintinged on the diamond to help counteract a yellowish shade. The ruby's setup will normally cover the dots, so they are hard to see in a placed stone.

So, is a color boosted ruby right for you? Possibly ... natural expensive color rubies can be attractive but they are pricey! Shade enhanced rubies are cost effective and permit many individuals to own a vibrantly colored ruby. Ask your regional jewelry expert if they have any Fancy diamonds ... either all-natural or shade enhanced rubies. It is always intriguing, and fun, to look at something various!

Under regular wear the irradiated and also HPHT shade enhanced rubies will have not a problem of the color fading away. The only consideration will certainly be when you should have any type of type of service done on the piece of fashion jewelry. If this kind of shade boosted ruby is exposed to excessive quantities of warm it may influence the color. The jewelry expert will have to understand that the ruby is a color boosted diamond before any kind of work is done and afterwards the jewelry expert will have the ability to select the very best strategy. Color improved rubies are currently additionally used as the little accent rubies around a bigger anemic diamond. There are several exciting items of precious jewelry offered with tiny blue, yellow, black, or green shade improved rubies.

Since you find out about shade enhanced rubies and someone attempts to offer you on what they call an all-natural fancy tinted ruby yet it goes to a super deal cost ... you will certainly know that something simply does not appear ideal regarding the deal. A report from a recognized grading laboratory must accompany natural Fancy colored diamonds that are marketed as all-natural. If you handle a credible firm and you have been comforted regarding what you are acquiring, after that you will lessen the possibility of something negative happening to you. Just like any type of situation entailing a pricey acquisition of something that not several people are experienceded in, education and learning ought to be a crucial part of your plan. This is also extra vital if you intend to purchase a shade boosted diamond. He is a Graduate Jeweler from GIA (Gemological Institute of America), which is also the place where he was an Instructor. He has instructed concerning diamonds to numerous trainees from throughout the world

What You Had to Know When Buying a Diamond Ring

Waterville

Not all vendors supply ruby grading laboratory reports (also known as ruby quality reports) to their consumers. So my general advice to you is to maintain your cash in your pocket when managing such jewelers.

Just buy a diamond involvement ring if it includes the original ruby top quality report.

A lab record is an independent analysis of the 4Cs of a loose ruby and consists of an outlined representation of the rock's clarity features and also a visuals representation of the rock's percentages. Having such a report enables you to compare diamonds of different qualities and inevitably helps you make a more informed buying choice.

A store could cut corners and not provide a laboratory record or an unethical seller may supply a fake one due to the moment, difficulty as well as expense he'll birth to obtaining a stone graded.

Yeah - there is a cost for grading a ruby (though that price is eventually paid by the customer), plus the delivery and also insurance coverage costs for sending the diamond to the laboratory. And also let us not fail to remember the chance cost of a jewelry expert not having the diamond in his shop for sale for a couple of weeks while the grading happens.

However, a diamond grading record could also not be offered because the costs to getting one may influence as well greatly on the last rate of the ring. For instance, a 0.3 ct diamond ring setting you back $250 state, might cost around $75 to be rated and have the report number inscribed on the girdle on the diamond. As you look for that suitable ruby engagement ring for your sweetie, you'll locate that there is a hodgepodge of laboratories declaring to give respectable diamond grading reports. But I would only place my money on ...

The Premier Diamond Grading Laboratory Reports

Yes, all ruby high quality records are not developed equal. Within the industry, it is a consensus that both top labs are GIA-GTL (Gemological Institute of America's Treasure Trade Laboratory) and the AGS (American Treasure Culture Laboratories).

The GCAL (Gem Accreditation and Guarantee Laboratory) also provides very concerned reports or "ruby certificates" as they are described by GCAL. The GIA has the greatest international online reputation for independence and consistency. Due to their constant shade as well as quality strictness guidelines, the world's biggest as well as most expensive rubies have actually been sent there for grading years. In 2006, GIA-GTL added a two-dimensional cut grading system for rounded brilliant diamonds.

AGS utilizes the strictest cut criteria in the industry. It uses a three-dimensional light efficiency metric that could grade numerous ruby shapes. As a matter of fact, it is the only cut grading system that is recognized by the clinical community.

Exactly what is even more, its Diamond High quality Paper makes use of an unique and proprietary 0 to 10 grading system to review the 4 Cs - a system which is easier to comprehend than GIA's grading system. Actually, AGS even goes the extra action by equating their 0-10 rating scale to other forms of score. For instance, the standard VS1 diamond quality rating is a 3 on the AGS Ruby Quality File.

Ruby Coverage - The Drawbacks

1. Diamond grading is not standardized or regulated as well as for this reason you could encounter tier 2 labs that employ looser guidelines to the rate 1 grading labs stated above. If you buy a ruby that has actually been graded by a rate 2 laboratory, you might finish up paying extra for a lesser quality diamond. So for instance, a ruby ranked a "F" in shade at a rate 2 laboratory could obtain a G, H, or lower color rating at a more respectable laboratory. The industry likewise discounts rubies graded by lesser known labs by about 15-30% or even more. So either you just get a diamond graded by a rate 1 laboratory or you accept that you could be getting a lesser top quality diamond compared to what is specified on the report if that diamond is rated by a lesser recognized laboratory.

2. Numerous huge store have huge contracts with lesser known labs with "softer" ruby grading guidelines. Several of these softer labs put "recommended replacement worths" on the lab reports - worths which are more than what stores means sell the rubies for. So a sales representative in a chain store could state to you, "Consider the large amount you are getting right here. We are selling you this diamond engagement ring for $2500 yet the report states that the suggested replacement value is $4000." Wow - exactly what a deal - NOT! This is why it is much better that you trust only independent tier 1 labs.

Likewise bear in mind that reliable diamond grading reports are not appraisals and don't offer appraisal numbers. Diamond appraisals are usually grossly inflated and are not something you'll desire to count on.

3. Ruby reports are filled with please notes that define that nothing is "certified" or assured and also that the labs are not accountable for errors. As a matter of fact, the GIA uses a disclaimer of types on their site pertaining to using the word "certify." The internet site claims:

"It is incorrect to state that pupils, grads, their businesses, or specific gemstones are "licensed" by GIA. The Gemological Institute of The U.S.A. does not accredit any individual or anything. Neither a student nor a grad that has actually been granted a certification or diploma, neither a gem which has been graded or identified by GIA has actually been certified by GIA".

So it is feasible that you the consumer is left holding the bag ought to an error in a record is later discovered. Courts have actually often ruled that sellers, not labs, are accountable for such mistakes. Why? Due to the fact that the laboratories suggested beforehand that their reports couldn't be held accountable.

Fortunately, there are a couple ways to provide yourself a lot more purchaser defense:

A. You can fly to India where jewelers supply a lifetime buyback policy to their customers. Too costly to fly?

B. You might locate among the 20% of United States jewelry experts that offer fully bound diamonds. These are rubies that are offered with life time damage, life time trade-in as well as life time buyback policies.

C. Not as excellent a remedy as purchasing a fully adhered ruby but you could acquire a diamond that features a real "certificate" as well as not a record. "Certified rubies do feature guaranties" albeit for much shorter periods.

Accreditation Some vendors refer to a "diamond report" as a "certified ruby" however practically this is not correct. From a lawful standpoint, a diamond report is a simply an expert opinion though in reality, aspects of a ruby grading report are not just point of views.

As an example, a diamond's carat weight (weight) could be properly identified along with its cut quality by measuring its optical effectiveness or by describing a computer version. A certification on the various other hand is a declaration of reality - a record for which the provider approves lawful duty and will certainly make restitution to the consumer for mistakes.

Some leading diamond grading labs use both reports and certificates. AGS uses Ruby High quality Documents (non-certified reports) as well as additionally Diamond High quality Certificates. Diamond Top quality Certificates are ready solely for AGS retail jewelry experts as well as supplies guaranties from getting involved American Treasure Society participant stores.

GCAL licenses it's diamond grading also. Its 100% money-back warranty policy is valid for a duration of two years from the day on the applicable certificate. This policy makes sure the precision of the cut, color and also clarity grades and also the carat weight.

A record or certification need to will certainly have a number on it that could or could not be etched on a ruby. You will be able to go into that number on the web site of the licensing lab to examine a record's legitimacy.

Components Of A Ruby Grading Record Ruby grading reports are constantly evolving yet particular component should stay the exact same. For example, the:

The Report #. This number is given and recorded in a lab's document as well as could or could not be inscribed on a diamond's band. You could go into the record number on a rating lab's internet site to examine the credibility of the diamond top quality report or to get even more information concerning the diamond. Shape & Facet Style: This is the overview and the cutting style made use of for the element setup. There are 3 fundamental aspect styles - "brilliant cut, step cut and mixed cutting style" and also 12 basic forms that include notables such as rounded brilliant as well as princess cut" rubies.

Dimensions: This refers to dimension (not weight) of a diamond. Size consists of measurements such as length, width, weight as well as size. A dimension is commonly noted to the hundredth of a millimeter. Dimensions play a massive duty in how a diamond shines.

Carat weight Weight: The weight of a ruby is measured to the hundredth of a carat and some even supply such measure to the thousandth of a carat weight (1.123 ct.). Carat weight is one of the most objective and the most convenient to comprehend of the 4Cs since all one has to do is weight the rock. Shade Quality: This informs you the degree of color absence in the ruby. The less shade the higher the quality.

Diamonds are commonly graded from D-Z; the closer to "D" the whiter the ruby. You need to never see ruby shade array such as (G-H, I-J-K, and so forth) on a diamond report. You ought to just see shade arrays on appraisals for stones that are mounted.

Clarity Grade: Virtually every diamond has actually inner flaws called additions and also exterior flaws called acnes. A diamond is rated inning accordance with the dimension, kind, location as well as quantity of these problems.

Quality grades range from Perfect (FL) - Included. Labs use a pair specialists to quality the quality of a diamond in order to think of an extra precise reading.

Cut Grade: Much more current ruby records include a cut quality for common round fantastic rubies. Cut considers the luster, fire and scintillation of the ruby. Cut quality ranges from Excellent - Poor.

Various other elements you may find on a ruby record consist of the gloss, symmetry, fluorescence and also proportion. Armed with this information, you are much better able to earn an analysis of the top quality of ruby that is installed in an engagement ring.

Fake Or Genuine Diamond As Well As Is This Right For You

Waterville

In an ideal world with unlimited budgets and an infinite supply of diamonds, everyone would have beautifully cut "D Flawless" diamonds. In the real world every diamond is unique. There are plenty of gorgeous diamonds to go around - you just need to know how to find one. Choosing a diamond is about balancing several factors to make the most of your budget. Each factor contributes to the beauty and prestige of your diamond. I will explain these factors so you will be prepared to make an informed decision about your diamond purchase.

FACTOR 1: CARAT WEIGHT

People often use the word Carat when discussing how big a diamond is, however "Carat" actually refers to the weight of a diamond. There is no rule as to what carat weight you should buy, but you'll doubtless have heard that "bigger is better." If you ask me, I think bigger is great but you shouldn't forget about the other aspects of a diamond's quality.

A useful tip: if you're looking at Certified Diamonds, you may find it valuable to compare the diameters of different diamonds. Since every diamond is individually cut, some may appear larger than others of the same weight.

FACTOR 2: SHAPE

Approximately 75% of diamonds sold worldwide are Round Brilliants. Rounds diamonds are the most popular, most brilliant, and most expensive. If you are purchasing a diamond as a surprise, Round Brilliant is generally your safest bet.

There is no real hierarchy of shapes being better or worse - it is truly a matter of personal preference. Princess Cuts are the second most popular, and a classic alternative to round diamonds. Cushion Cuts are trendy and have a beautiful vintage look. If you want something different but not too crazy, try an Oval Cut, Asscher Cut, or Radiant Cut diamond.

While no shape is better, there are some significant differences between shapes. Take for example, the radiant cut vs the emerald cut. Though they are a similar shape, the extra facets of the radiant cut give it additional fire and sparkle. If you prefer the emerald cut's understated elegance, consider that it's easier to spot any imperfections and select a higher clarity grade.

Another tip: Diamonds (even round diamonds) may not be perfectly symmetrical. It's nothing to worry about if your diamond's width does not precisely match its height, but if your diamond is much longer than it is wide it may not be what you're expecting. This is especially the case in shapes like Cushion and Oval, where a more asymmetrical diamond might look "skinny", with much of the fire and brilliance concentrated at the ends.

FACTOR 3: CUT

"Cut" refers to a diamond's finish and proportions, and is critical in determining its beauty. Getting the angles right ensures a beautiful diamond that's full of life. In many cases it can be more difficult to spot flaws in a fiery, brilliant diamond. Cut is generally graded in five categories: Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, and Excellent. Excellent is the highest graded awarded by GIA (whereas other labs may use terms like "ideal" or numbers like "0"). If you want to play safe, stick to "Very Good" and "Excellent" cuts when you choose your diamond.

FACTOR 4: CLARITY

Almost all diamonds have naturally¬ occurring features called "inclusions." Inclusions form as the diamond crystallizes deep underground, and they are unique to each diamond. They take many different forms, and can help you identify a diamond as your own. However, large and prominent inclusions can detract from the beauty of a diamond.

There are many different types of inclusions, and not all are created equal. If your diamond certificate has an "inclusion map," check where the inclusions are. Try to find a diamond with inclusions near the edge where they will be masked by sparkle or hidden by the setting of your diamond. If your budget is limited, I recommend buying "SI" clarity or better. "SI" stands for "Slightly Included." With close inspection you can usually spot the inclusions in an SI¬ graded diamond, but these inclusions will most likely not be visible once your diamond is set in jewellery. If you want to be sure your diamond will look "eye clean", even up close, I recommend selecting a VS2 clarity diamond or better. "VS" stands for "Very Slight Inclusion," and imperfections in VS clarity stones are rarely seen by the naked eye.

FACTOR 5: COLOUR

The term "colour" usually refers to how much warm tint is in a diamond. The scale ranges from D (colorless) to Z (very strongly tinted yellow or brown). Pure white diamonds are considered more desirable, and are more expensive. Warmer¬-hued diamonds (such as K, L, and M) are not necessarily less attractive, but they are significantly less valuable.

Conventional wisdom is to select J colour or better. Personally, I love G and H colour diamonds ¬- they hit the "sweet spot" where most people will not notice colour in the diamond unless they're doing a direct comparison. However, an I or J colour diamond that is well cut and has a lot of life can give you a beautiful diamond at a bargain price.

Depending on how they are cut, different diamonds will display colour differently. This is why colour grades are assigned by looking at a diamond upside¬down. Generally, more¬ brilliant diamonds show their colour less than less brilliant diamonds.

FACTOR 6: FLUORESCENCE

Fluorescence has a bad rep, and most of it is unfair. Diamond Fluorescence refers to how a diamond responds when subjected to ultra¬violet light. Fluorescent diamonds can glow any one of several colours, but the most common is blue. In rare cases fluorescence can cause your diamond to have a milky appearance when viewed in direct daylight. This is most often the case with strong or very strong fluorescence and D/E/F colour diamonds.

However, there are many, many more cases where blue fluorescence is a positive thing. Imagine you were shining a blue light on a yellow diamond... the blue tint can make your diamond look whiter. If your diamond falls in the "near colourless," "lightly tinted," or "tinted" range I recommend looking for medium blue or faint blue fluorescence.

Warning: Green, red, and yellow fluorescence are rare, and they will not have the same benefit. If you are interested in a diamond that has strong blue, very strong blue, green, red, or yellow fluorescence, I recommend asking your salesperson to show you your diamond outside in natural daylight. If you're buying online, contact the seller prior to making your purchase so they can examine the diamond first in natural daylight.

FACTOR 7: GRADER

This should always be your first question: Says who? Every diamond grading laboratory has different standards, so comparing diamonds graded by different sources is extremely unreliable. One grader might grade a diamond K SI2, and another might call that same diamond F VS2. I know that sounds crazy, but I see it happen all the time.

The most reputable and consistent grading laboratories are GIA, AGS, IGI, and HRD. GIA is considered the global standard worldwide. AGS is a popular alternative in the U.S.A. while IGI and HRD are more common in Europe.

EGL is tricky because there are EGL labs all over the world, and some of them do a great job while others can be less reliable. We strongly recommend caution when buying an EGL certified diamond unless it's from EGL-¬USA.

Many diamonds are assigned grades by valuation companies and in-¬house graders. If your diamond does not come with a report from a major laboratory, you should always ask where the grader trained. He or she should be certified by a major grading laboratory: GIA, AGS, IGI, or HRD. Be smart and be cautious about reports done by uncertified shop owners, salespeople, or valuation companies.

SELECTING YOUR DIAMOND

You can choose to purchase your diamond online, or from a retail store. If you prefer to purchase your diamond in a retail store, avoid the big chains and shop with smaller independent jewellers. Many independent jewellers are actually significantly less expensive than their large competitors. (You don't have to take my word for it - shop around and you'll quickly learn that this is true). This way you'll buy a better quality diamond and - if you wish - you'll have the opportunity to design your own hand-made engagement ring setting.

If you choose to shop online, I would recommend comparing prices and service across several websites. Be sure that the company ships from your country - otherwise you'll be hit with expensive duty and GST. Always make sure you call or e-mail customer service and have them hand-inspect your diamond before you complete your purchase. Sometimes a diamond may seem like a great deal, but it could have an unfortunate inclusion, asymmetrical cut, or be negatively impacted by fluoresence. And above all, make sure you have an easy and affordable way to return the diamond if it doesn't turn out as you'd hoped. Online shopping is the best way to get a great deal on a diamond for your engagement ring, diamond studs, or pendant - just review this article, be reasonably cautious, and have fun.
